Where I stayed
Mildura Church of Christ

During the night I heard the continuous rumble of trucks go past on the Sturt Highway, which runs past the Paringa Lutheran Church where we were staying. After yesterday's scenario, with the rough and sometimes non-existant road shoulders plus the traffic, I thought we were going to be in for a tough day.

However, the good Lord blessed us with a great day and a State Government that has invested a bit in its road infrastructure. As soon as we crossed the border into Victoria (about 20kms into the ride), the shoulders were wide and quite smooth, which mean't we could stay on the shoulder in single file all the way to Mildura, thus letting the trucks, caravans and cars go merrily by without too much danger to us riders.

The landscape was quite flat, in what you would call 'marginal' country i.e. not too much rainfall, and therefore the crops were poor and the grapevines were flourishing only if they were being irrigated (mainly trickle).

We did the 136kms in just over 5 hours averaging 26.6kms/hour. Everyone was feeling quite good when we arrived in Mildura and set up for the night in the Church of Christ hall.

Mildura is a big town, with large shopping centres and lots of shops. Marcus headed off to get a haircut, while I updated my blog.

Having tea at the RSL Club tonight.

Tommorrow is a longer ride of about 160kms to Balranald - we will cross into NSW, and our forth state on this ride.

We hit the big 3,000kms today!! Only just over 1,000 to go - boy, doesn't time fly when your having fun!

Wow,
wow. let me say it backwards - wow! 3000 klicks and counting. Well done again! Hope Mark did a real shave job on his head to cut down the drag and wind resistance. Probably should trim his mo as well...

See you soon,
Michael.
