Our destination today was Paringa, which is about 5kms past the town of Renmark. It was a relatively easy day, with the distance only being about 84kms. But the traffic and rough edges made it tiring, with the bumpy surface and constant concentration.
My knee is going ok, although it still hurts a bit at the beginning of the ride. Otherwise in good shape, as is Marcus Maximus.
We had morning tea at Bonney Lake (as distinct from Bonny Doon!) - poor Roger (who rides one of the recumbent bikes) had a number of flats and tyre blowouts, and is now running out of tyres, which have a smaller rim size than conventional road bikes. He has ordered some more to be delivered to Hay when we arrive there on Friday - hope his patches hold out till then.
Crossed the Murray River a couple of times during the ride - plenty of large Riverboats making there way up and down the river and moored at the edge. Went over a large bridge at Paringa when we finished our ride, which lifts up to let the large boats through. We also had a look at a lock, which manages the water level of the river, and lets the boats up and down the river.
We arrived at Paringa at about 12.30pm. After lunch and setting up our gear in the Lutheran Church hall, Richard took us in by bus to Renmark, where we had a coffee and looked around the town centre and its shops.
A pub meal again in Renmark tonight, and to bed early for our 145km ride to Mildura tomorrow.
We will also cross the border into Victoria (but for only one day!)
