Shorter day - only 109kms!
But it rained for reasonable part of the ride, although not heavy and very little wind. Had a few dramas along the way - poor Edna, who rides a recumbent bike (as does her husband Roger), hit a loose metal patch and came off - lucky others behind (including me) managed to avoid running in to her. And thankfully, Edna didn't do too much damage to herself - some abrassions and bruising.
The road was not as good as yesterday - virtually no shoulders, and bit rougher. We had about 3 flats - hope this does not keep happening, as we might run out of spare tubes!
The ride today and yesterday brought back memories for me - I lived in Southern Cross for a couple of years (1980-82) - and the towns - Cunderdin, Doodlakine, Hines Hill etc, all reminded me of the countless trips to Perth and back again while I was dating Veronica - what a committed sausage I was!!
Arrived in Southern Cross at about 1pm. The town certainly looks better than it did when I saw it last (about 15 years ago) - the Shire has done some landscaping and townscape work.
Had lunch, did some washing, had a nice hot shower and now doing the blog. Mark and i are going well - keeping up the pace with ease - thank goodness for all the training!
We will have tea at the Palace Hotel tonight, before hitting the sack.
Monster ride tomorrow - 186kms to Coolgardie.

Day Three -
Hey Mark and Gatzby
Sounds like you're having about much fun as you can have sitting down!!!
Getting plenty of flats. Wait till one goes off while you're all sound asleep (that's if you're keeping your instruments of pain indoors with you).
Sounds like you'll all be too tired to do party tricks like letting down each other's matresses.
Do people give you sponsorship money as you pass through the towns?
Rest well tonight and find yourselves a good steady wheel to follow. jwo
re day 3
hey jaywo, greeat to hear from you. the ride is as you say, about as much fun as you can have sitting down. Bit of a soggy day today, but still, all good. Will keep you posted. Thanx for the tip about letting down the mattresses. Could be interesting . .. ... ..... Marcus
SMOULDERING CHAMOIS!!!
I can't figure out which is the worst - 5 weeks in the saddle or the prospect of 5 weeks on a blow up mattress!!!
Great to see Mark making a Fashion Statement during the morning tea break.
A disappointment for Gatzby with the injury to the trusty steed. What a nuisance.
I figured out you are riding for just under $2 a kilometre. Can you Sing and Ride? Sort of
G'Day
Hey guys,
Can't believe you are so far away already! Long time since I've been through southern cross. Not good to hear about bike probs tho. Maybe you should have taken the old 'trusty' !
Give our regards to Edna. Hope she stays ok.
Stay well!
leaving your friends behind
Oh Brother Proud where art thou?
The Title is the first line from the ode created by the famous Irish homosexual poet whose name I cannot recall.
I am to inform you that the 'Escapees Division' of the Mental Health Dept have put out an alert for the lot of you,who defy commonsense with blistered backsides.
As you approach the land of skimpies and rabid pit bull terriers, and the occasinal gentleman from the Eastern bloc countries, are there any signs of weakness of the spirit?
We(Linda and I) salute you from our beds of down and tupperware full of chocolate biscuits!
Gazza...
DAD!

Have fun! :)
