More home video...perhaps we'll find a new program to edit the video. Somehow during one of the computer crashes, we lost a decent editing program.
Anyway, the video captures a pod of at least 4 (though we think there were 5: 2 adults and 3 juvenilles) humpback whales and about 10 or 12 Pantropical Spotted Dolphin.
We watched the whales for about 20 minutes before the adults kindly asked us to move on (you probably weren't aware that we have been working on our fluency in whale.)
Common behaviors that we noticed:
Blow - a visible exhalation at the surface
Fluking - when a whale raises its tail before a dive; may be preceeded by a distinct raising of its back near the dorsal fin
Breach - leaping into the air, rotating and landing on its back or side
Spy Hop - raising the head above the surface to expose the eyes, ostensibly for taking a look around
* Definitions of behaviors courtesy of a pamphlet that my brother, a marine biologist, put together.
