I spent a couple of enjoyable days in the little village of Cahuita which is further along the caribbean coast from Tortuguero towards Panama . Splurged a little on a very nice but relatively expensive (GBP 7.50 a night) place located right on the seafront with nice large hammock in front of the crashing waves. Cahuita village is next to the Cahuita national park which , similarly to Tortuguero , encompasses both a forest and marine area. I walked the
five-mile nature trail in the national park which runs alongside a splendid beach and managed to see cappuchino monkeys , a coati and a very large iguana (the biggest one I´ve seen on my trip). Also I went out in a boat snorkelling off Cahuita point - not the greatest snorkelling I´ve ever done and the water was a bit murky in places but still managed to see quite many types of fish , a few stingrays and the coral reef. Despite lots of suntan lotion I picked up a classic case of "snorkellers back" under the hot caribbean sun which was a bit sore in the evening. Had a nice dinner & a couple of beers with a few other travellers I had met in the national park during the day , including a Korean guy who is halfway through travelling the world for two years , which sounds pretty good to me ! Cahuita was my last stopping point in Costa Rica as on Wednesday I am heading off to the Panamanian border on my way to the islands of Bocas Del Toro.
