Where I stayed
Continental Hotel
Spent one night in Puerto Limon on Costa Rica´s Caribbean Coast as a brief stopover point before going onwards up the coast to Tortuguero the following day. Puerto Limon is a rather faded old caribbean port that has suffered as a result of all the banana industry distribution moving up the road to a more modern dock at Moin. I arrived around dusk , got myself sorted out with a cheapo hotel (with possibly the thinnest walls on my trip so far) and went out for food. Limon seemed a bit of a dodgy place after dark to be honest - for some the in-thing to do is to drink too much , then take a nap in the street or hang around and shout rather aggressively at tourists - the guidebook advised against going drinking in the bars and to stick to the main restaurants - I could quite understand why after a couple of hours in the town so I stuck to the advice and was quite glad I wasn´t going to be hanging around too long. In the morning light it seemed a much more pleasant place , with a bustling caribbean vibe & more friendly people who helped me find where to get the bus to the dock at Moin for my trip to Tortuguero.
