Where I stayed
Hotel Buenos Aires
Spent a day in Durango , some interesting buildings around town and a nice plaza which made for a good few hours wandering around town but not a lot else which warranted staying longer. I wanted to go out to the movie set at "Villa Del Oeste" , which is not too far outside of Durango and is famous for a number of old western movies and apparently some Mexican TV shows , but frustratingly I just couldnt find the right bus to get there. Despite my best efforts to ask a number of people at the central bus station , I was met with lot of shrugged shoulders and the lack of Spanish language skills on my part thwarted me once again , although to be fair three people I asked pointed in three completely different directions where to catch the bus to Chupaderos . The fun part came at one point when I asked one of the local "camionera" (small bus) drivers where I should catch the bus. The driver had some basic English and beckoned me to get on board his camionera ... at which point he promptly proceeded at pace to try and catch up with another larger bus ahead up the road which was already on the move , shouting "I get him to take you". Goodness knows what the other passengers thought as he veered from lane to lane trying to pull level with another large bus (which I´m pretty sure wasnt going to Chupaderos anyway) to catch the drivers attention. As the other bus seemed to be getting away , and I had a distinct feeling the driver was more than a little eccentric, I decided to abandon the quest and asked him to let me get off before we got too much further out of town. Then I had to try and find a bus heading back into town. So alas no Villa Del Oeste and tomorrow I head off to Zacatecas , one of the places I have been most looking forward to in the Northern part of Mexico.
