Well after a long time dreaming about it and months of concrete planning my big trip is finally under way. I arrived in Chihuahua , Northern Mexico late on Friday night , routing in via Houston , USA. Pretty smooth journey , apart from the usual long US immigration queues. Crashed straight away at the very good hostel (Casa de Chihuahua) when I arrived as I´d been up nearly 24 hrs by the time I got there & was pretty tired. Spent Saturday exploring Chihuahua - it´s not a particularly big town so I was able to get around most of the major sights in a day - went to the Museum of the Mexican Revolution (lots of interesting stuff about the bandit turned revolutionary "Pancho Villa" including his bullet-ridden car in which he was assassinated) , the cathedral and Plaza Armas , Plaza Hidalgo and the Palace with murals depicting the story of Chihuahua. In the early evening I then went out with a couple of other guys staying at the hostel in search of stone chihuahuas ! ... there is supposedly a "dog parade" of chihuahua statues but we couldnt find the damn things anywhere. Tried to ask some locals for directions but an Englishman , an Aussie & a Japanese guy with about three words of Spanish between all of us didnt have much luck - we have also since been told that no-one in Mexico will admit to not knowing where something is and would rather tell you anything than lose face but I´m sure the language barrier had more to do with it. Anyway , so we gave up on the dogs and went for a few beers and some food in a local bar , met some Chihuahua locals in the bar who were were very friendly and we had a good time. Moved on to Creel on the Sunday morning by bus , together with Ben from Oz , one of the guys I met at the hostel.
