Kalaw is a good hopping off spot for Pindaya, home of the buddha-statue-filled caves of the same name, and a hustling and bustling market in town, making for some great photo opportunities. I ended up enjoying the "kitschy caves filled with buddhas" far more than I would have expected. Don't forget to bring a torch into the cave though, as quite frequently the electricity fails leaving you in the dark, on how to get out and literally.
Now, although I consider myself rather snaphappy when it comes to taking photographs, in the presence of the greatness of Slovenian Gregor and Bernardo, the Swiss shooter with a burn rate of 900 shots a day, one can only be humble. Jumping out of a car to set up a tripod and shoot a field of sunflowers was a first for me. And I have the photos to prove it.
