Well today was to be my longest drive yet, nearly 300 miles, across to the West coast of South Island and glacier country. As the crow flies and as you can see from the map, Fox Glacier is located just over from Mt Cook where I was the other day but to get there involved a long drive via Wanaka and Haast through various passes through the stunning mountains. In fact the mileage isnt really a factor as you find the time goes very fast as every new turn in the road uncovers more stunning scenery. I think this route is prob the most beautiful of all the drives I have done so far with Lindis and Haast passes being so stunning!

Fox Glacier is a very small settlement built up around the nearby attraction of the glacier with Franz Josef glacier a little further on up the road. Th.e settlement is small and nothing to write home about but it did have a decent pub which I found

It's now the 6th and its been pouring with rain all night and all of today so I have decided today will be a rest day after my travels of yesterday and I will leave Glacier spotting to tomorrow when hopefully the weather will be better. So Im getting up to date with the blog and generally having a well earnt rest !
