The road between Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook Village had so many nice picnic spots and stunning stop off point that we didn't make it to Mt Cook until the afternoon. That didn't matter though as we picked a walk that was not supposed to make much more than 3 hours return.
It was a lovely tramp (kiwi word for hike) along a river with massive peaks on all sides. Mt Cook itself was very spectacular although the glacier snaking down from the peak was a bit too dirty grey. Our first tramp in NZ, the weather stayed fine and the views were awesome.
The drive out of Mt Cook the views just got better and better as the sun dropped.
