The train ride bck from MP to Cusco was a lot of fun. For one, the train travels a lot quicker uphill than downhill for safety and stability apparently (?) so we made great time. At one stage however one of the pneumatic lines detached itself which brought the whole train to a stop pretty quickly...but was soon re-attached. Were going to miss the scenery which is amazing - the mountains make everything else seem so insignificant - and watching the occasional Incan ruin pass by is very cool. For most of the trip you can just make out the Inca trail which is often the preferred route for seasoned (read loco) traveller/hiker. Looks great in the sun but from our little bit of wet-weather experience I can confidently say Im very happy we took the train option instead :)

The four of us and Hugo sat with a German tourist named Till. He was great value and we all spent most of the 3 hour trip annoying our fellow passengers with stories of our travels and comparing notes. At the top of the mountain range Mario our faithful driver picked us up to offer us a speedy bus ride through the back hills to avoid the nasty 60min zig-zag down the hill. Its a very different experience flying through these tiny, wet cobble-stoned streets at 9pm with little street lighting.

Till, Eva and I decided that being our last night we would go out for a bite to eat, especially since Till and I had both wanted to try the Peruvian delicasy and traditional dish of Cuy, which is of course, Guinea Pig. I will keep the description short for those that are a little squeemish but Im not sure if it was more the anticipation or the strong herbs used but we both loved it (perhaps to our surprise). A couple of Pisco Sours later and we were ready for bed.

It seems amazing that just over a week ago we were sitting at home wondering what it would be like at MP and it is as everyone describes, a very special place and heading off to sleep I couldnt stop thinking about the amazing day wed had.
