We made it to the very tip of New Zealand today, and stopped to break our necks Sandboarding along the way.  It's beautiful up here, but then again, every part of New Zealand I've seen has been beautiful.  To get to the tip, we drove along 90 mile beach, called that because it's, er, 55 miles long.

At the tip, there's the Cape Reinga Lighthouse.  This is a perfect postcard photograph, especially at sunset.  It's also at this point where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea, and you can literally see the two of them crash into each other in enormous waves.

According to Mâori mythology, the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga on their journey to the afterlife in the spiritual homeland of Hawaiki. At Cape Reinga they depart the mainland by leaping off the ancient Pôhutukawa tree on the cape. They turn briefly at the Three Kings Islands for one last look back towards the land, then continue on their journey. Reinga means the leaping-off place and Te Rerenga Wairua means the leaping-off place of spirits

So basically it's a big ghost diving board.
