So, I meet Sarah at Sydney Airport and then we fly to Auckland, the City of Sails.  New Zealand is one of the places I've been looking forward to the most, partly because I've heard so much about it, and partly because I got my fortune told in Blackpool when I was about 12 and it told me to go to New Zealand.

The hostel is spotty dog, and once settled I make a phone call I've been waiting a long time to make.  Ana, the girl I met in Chile is now living here, so we arrange to meet up and end up having another wonderful day together.  The three of us took a nice ferry ride over to Devonport to an extinct volcano which we climbed (some better than others) and the view was worth it.  Devonport seemed a really cool wee place, I'm sorry I didn't get to see more of it.  It had a real cool, calm, quirky vibe.  There was a gold plaque, mounted on a marbel stone, and it read; "On this spot in 1897, nothing happened."  How can you not love that?

That night I met up with Ana again and we hit the bars, drink lots of Guinness and have another great night.  Ironically enough, she flew to Ireland the next day.

We're travelling around the country on a hop on/hop off tour called Magic Bus (http://www.magicbus.co.nz/)  and it's pretty sweet.  We're heading north first, up to Paihia and the bay of islands.  New Zealand's off to a good start.  :-)
