La Paz is a strange city that clings to the side of a random Andean hillside and if you take the time to look up its surrounded by the most surreal snow capped mountains. That are always snow capped!! The people are the friendliest I´ve come across so far in South AMerica - (although if i´m really honest my dealings with them have been restricted to the beer woman, the hostal man person and those that make me food!) It is not what I expected - its exceeds expectations and it was made all the more random and special by those people we met here! The highest snow capped mountain the locals nickname "El Diablo"!! Enough cultural bullshit I hear you scream get down to the nitty gritty.

Too tired to do much when we first arrived we crashed at the hotel and watched a movie - living it up in La Paz eh? Well that was just a pre-empt to the madness that followed! We were sitting in a random bar and spotted some lost looking dodgy blokes next thing you know they turn up in our hostel and let crazy commence! Yup gotta love the Aussies! Our first encounter found us mistakenly encountering a brothel and then heading to what seemed like a respectable Thai restaurant but was actually a random kareoke bar where we drank the night away and partied it up with our new triage of Aussie´s and Ryan that delightful Dub. Apparently I did a Kenny Rodgers and "Polly Parton" duet of Islands in the stream! Dazzling as I´m sure I was I think i was upstaged by Gary / Frank Sinatra´s rendition of "The Lady is a Tramp" how apt considering the place was full of Russian prostitutes! The we were injected with a bit of Don McLean from our Southern counter part Ryan and to finish with Mr Axel Rose himself with "Welcome to the Jungle" - ladies and gentlemen after that it was just booze and music heaven.

Next day was Halloween - a big thing here in Bolivia - we decided to go back to the scene of the crime - Olivers Travels - to begin night number two on the booze, little did we know that it was fancy dress and we were not in costume - so we improvised - I went as a stalker and Gary went as a Gringo! Party on! We woke up 2 days later and had to (a) inform our families we were alive and (b) pack to go to the jungle - nightmare!

We decided to fly from La Paz to Rurrenabaque to hook up with our jungle tour and the airport was an ordeal in itself - I got a random search from the FELCN or the Bolivian Drugs and Narcotics team as us lesser mortals refer to it as! Perfect considering it was 6am and I was tired hungry and pissed off - the woman stood me in front of the FELCN statement which states that articles 8 and 9 say they can do whatever the feck they want if they decide to search you and I had to nod in agreement then I got brought into a wee photo booth type room where I had to remove my socks and shoes and she gave me a full body search - no rubber gloves though disappointingly - she felt me up - behind my ears, under my bra straps and all the other unchartered places!! Then when she was sure I had feck all on me I had to go to another section where she went through my bag - kept waiting on a random teddy bear appearing with its guts ripped out and 400g´s of coke spilling out but it wasnt that exciting - she looked stole my tweezers, nail file and nail clippers, apologiesed and let me go!

Gary oblivious to the whole thing was off Twix hunting! Mad! And here I will leave you with Mr Ireland to inform you of our little "Welcome to the Jungle" experience............
