... ends up on this blog.

Before I hit Sin City, I stopped off at Hoover Dam.  I had completely forgotten about this Wonder of the Modern World until I looked at the map an realised I could go see it on my way to Vegas.  I'll be honest, it wasn't as big as I was expecting.   When seen on TV it looks gi-norma-gantuan.  In real life it's only ma-jassive. Some people might say these aren't even real words, but I tend to ignore these people.  Now, don't get me wrong, it's fecking huge, I couldn't fit it in to one photograph no matter where I stood, but I guess the Grand Canyon earlier that day had redifined my meaning of big.

Now, onto Las Vegas.

I didn't really like it, and I know why I didn't like it.  Three reasons;

1) I was skint.

2) I was alone.

3) I was alone and skint.

If I had money, then at least there was something to do, and if I was with someone, then at least I would've had company, but to be without either just sucked because there's really not much to do in Vegas without money.  And it's very sleezy. Even more so than Amsterdam or Bangkok.

I did manage to get half price tickets to a Las Vegas show.  It may have been the cheapest show on the Strip, but it had the best name.  Gerry "The Mentalist" McCambridge is like a poor mans Derren Brown, but not as good.  He's had a few hour long TV specials here, and a TV series has been made about his act, so he's kinda popular here in the States.  Check out some of his stuff on youtube or go here; http://www.mentalist.com

Las Vegas has some of the best hotels in the world.  The MGM Grand, Caesers Palace, The Venetian, The Luxor, The Tropiciana.. the list goes on.  So where did I stay?  Hooters!  It was actually very cheap, only half the price of a motel.  Thats why I stayed there.  It had nothing to do with lots of beautiful young girls running about in wee shorts and tight tops.

I also took the opportunity here to go to a firing range.  When I asked the guy what kind of targets he had, he shows me a list...  Ghetto home-boy (Black), Ghetto home-boy (Latino), some sort of 1970s South America drug lord highjacking a plane, Arab terrorist, Arab solider, Bin Laden (seriously), and... zombies!!  Obviously I went for the Zombie target, but when he brings it out, it's actually a Zombie Bin Laden!!  Now when World War Z comes I'll have had a little experience in fighting the Islamic undead.

The highlight of my Vegas trip was the Superbowl.  This years finalists were the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburg Steelers.  Even though Las Vegas is in Nevada, Arizona is just a stones through away, so this place was jumpin'.  It turned out to be one of the best Superbowls of all time, and it had a little of everything.  The Steelers won it in the last minute of the game with an unbelievable catch, but everyone here was still in a good mood because it was such a classic.
