Granada of course is home to the famous Alhambra, a Muslim palace and fortress dating back from the 12th Century.  It was nominated to be counted as one of the 7 modern wonders of the world a couple of years ago, but didnīt make it past the Taj Mahal.  Having seen both, Iīd have to say it was unlucky.  The Taj Mahal is certainly more impressive, but the sheer size of the Alhambra and the detail involved in itīs building and architucture is a marvel.  Every doorway, every wall, almost every surface is carved with amazing geometric designs in the Islamic style.  There are fountains, gardens, streams, a mosque, and all this is enclosed within 12km of wall, flanked by 13 massive towers.  It sits overlooking Granada with snowcapped mountains in the background and at sunset is truely one of the most breath-taking sights in Europe.

5000 people visit the Alhambra per day so even at the end of November it was very busy.  Looking back over the photos again doesnīt really do the place justice.  You canīt tell the detail in every carving, or grasp the enormous size of the place.  I guess youīll just have to come visit yourself someday.
