Imagine a pristine white sand beach, turquoise blue water, not a tourist in sight (let alone a hotel) and you have just imagined the beaches around Kuta Lombok.  For the first time we have been able to see a place BEFORE it was developed.  You hear people tell stories of how Bali was in the 70's (just beach huts and a few tourists) - and now we will be telling those same stories 20 years from now - because those beaches in Kuta Lombok won't be like that for long.  A Dubai developer has bought miles along these beaches with a plan to develop them into fancy $$$$ resorts where rooms will start at $1K a night.  The International airport has already been built, they are currently widening the road....it's only a matter of time.

We arrived in Kuta on Wednesday, found one of the last rooms in town (although there are only a few tourists there are also only a few hotels) and checked out the beach in town.  Not bad - pretty white course sand but the waters are a little shallow to swim in.  The next day we rented a motorcycle and went in search of the beaches raved about in our little guide book.  We found them.  Sand so soft and white it was like baby powder.  Water so blue it rivals the Caribbean.  And nobody on them!  OK - maybe WE were on them!

The four days blended into each other as we got into a routine of beach, beach, beach, happy hour beers (finally found reasonably priced beer), dinner and crib (Garry has finally taught Wendy to play crib...she's kicking his ass).  FYI you can't find a cribbage board anywhere in Indonesia.

Currently back in Senggigi for a night before heading to Gili Meno.  Opted to stay in a different hotel this time as the previous Senggigi hotel had, in addition to the giant spiders and cockroaches, our newest annoyance...scorpions!  And that place was more than twice the price of our new place!

Today Garry got his first haircut in Indonesia - he paid $2CDN and got ripped off!  It's terrible.  This will be his last haircut - he figures he can do a better job himself - but you can be the judge of that.

Oh yeah - and when we tell people we are from Canada, they always say how much they love that song by the young girl from Canada....Justin Bieber...ha, ha, ha.  They are always very surprised when we tell them that's a boy.

So Wendy finally got over her "CA = can't add" affliction hey? That is awesome. And Garry, you are a much more patient teacher than I. My teaching Wendy to play crib lasted for one game in Thailand.

The haircut is not that bad....spend $2 more to get it fixed?
