We met a lovely lady from Guam (a US island territory near Japan) who offered to take us on a day trip around Bali with her driver. She has been coming to Bali for years and spends a month at the same hotel we are staying at. We went to the typical tourist stops - the Elephant Cave (a small cave carved into a rock face where you enter through the mouth of a demon). Here is where Garry accidentally flung the camera down to the ground where it bounced a couple times and landed in a rain puddle. Yikes! We thought it was finished - but luckily it still appears to be working. So for your information the Panasonic Lumix can take a hit. Next we visited the Water Temple (a natural spring where you can bathe in the holy water) and then stopped to view a picturesque volcano and lake.

We then toured a coffee plantation where we had the pleasure of drinking "poop". That's right - poop! The little weasel like animal called the Luwak eats coffee beans and fruit, then poops out the beans which are collected, cleaned and roasted. The coffee was actually pretty tasty and gave us a wicked buzz. We can now both officially say we drank poop! How many people can say that? Although I think this is the $20 cup of coffee that you can buy at those fancy coffee shops at home.....so maybe more people have had poop than I thought.

Finally we headed to the Taro Elephant Safari. This was by far the BEST part of the day. We actually got to pet, feed and play with the elephants. I feed the baby elephant and was able to put my hand in his month and touch his tongue - so soft and not slimy like I would have expected. The elephants did a little show for us and we have a ton of pictures. They are such beautiful animals and this was by far the best elephant experience we have ever had. See the video of me on an elephants knee - so cool!

To finish off the day Garry and I celebrated with a Bintang liquid dinner and thought of all you suckers at home slaving away.

Man I miss Bali!
I tried the poo coffee - tastes better than my poo coffee. Actually I really like it but it was 600 000 rupiah for a small bag.
Elephants are awesome - keep going - because it is the only support they get. They no longer use them for logging.
Nice choice on camera too...perhaps Garry should not be carrying it?

Your trip sounds fabulous and you are just beginning. Please keep the pictures coming and Gary - please be careful when you are on camera detail or you won't have food or beer because you will have blown the budget for severak weeks to replace the camera... Take care.

Funny! Brad bought that weasel coffee for our parent at Christmas this year! I'm not sure they even drank it yet!

Okay so that all sounds pretty cool... BUT did you loosen the purse strings and get your man a beer?

I think you're right about the poop coffee, it is around $20 bucks a cup and is really quite tasty. It was profiled on telly not so long ago!
