Where I stayed
Trindade Sea & Forest Hostel
I'll try and keep this short and sweet as I know we're overloading you at the moment, but we're seeing some cool places! As we mentioned before, we had to extend our stay in the state of Rio de Janeiro as the buses to Sao Paulo were fully booked days in advance. So, we decided to head down to Trindade. A place that most people staying in Paraty visit for the day, but had heard was really nice to stay in. It is a small village on the coast south of Paraty with much better beaches. We booked to stay in a place called 'Trindade Sea & Forest Hostel'. It turned out to be more of a chalet than a hostel and felt like we were staying in someone's wooden cabin out in the woods. It was just outside the village and just inside the forest with a small stream running by it. It was really nice! Anyways, lets get down to the nitty gritty about what we actually got up to!
18th Feb - We made our way to the bus station in Paraty and waited for our bus to Trindade. It was really really hot and we had to wait for an hour in the sun. When we get to Trindade it took a little while to find where we were staying as it was up a small path that was not overly obvious. When we got there though it was amazing and we had a small private room overlooking the trees and stream. We went for a walk along the beach, but Kirsty wasn't feeling very well so we went back and she went for a lie down. It seemed she'd caught a cold off another girl in our room in Paraty. I went back out and explored more in the hope I'd find somewhere to watch the Man Utd vs. Reading game, but alas, nowhere was showing it. I made my way to the other beach, Praia de Maio and on my way bumped into Jess and Brittany, who we met at the Toboga falls in Paraty. After catching up with them I had a trot along the beach, which was much better than the first one then went back to the hostel with some beers and a coke for Kirsty. We spent the evening sat around the table on the decking chatting to the other people staying there and had a nice evening conversing next to the stream and the sound of forest nightlife.
19th Feb - We intended to try and find the waterfalls a little way up into the forest, but instead missed the turning and the trail ended up coming out onto Praia de Meio
20th Feb - We got up early to go to the natural pool at the far end of the beach before checking out and heading back to Paraty. When we got to the pool it was a large pool of sea water that was surrounded by large rocks, so basically calm sea. It was really nice though and nice to swim in and had some tropical fish. We saw a small bridge leading to a jetty so decided to walk over. When we got there we saw another Sea Turtle having his breakfast on the rocks just under the water. I really hate myself for not taking the opportunity to get in and swim with him, but hopefully we'll see more somewhere else! We had a huge lunch in Trindade of grilled fish, rice, beans, chips and salad before getting the bus back to Paraty and finding our new hostel for the night. That evening we went to the historical square and had a beer whilst listening to a Jazz quartet that had set themselves up.
OK, so maybe not so short and sweet, but I hope you enjoyed reading about the turtles as much as we did experiencing them!! We're off to Sao Paulo next, but only for a short stopover of 2 nights before hitting 'Foz de Iguacu' (Iguassu Falls)! A 14 hour bus separates Sao Paulo and there though so lots of travelling to come!
Hope everyone is well!
