Where I stayed
Arriving into Acapulco it's not the vision I had in mind. It's screamingly busy and looks tired and grimey. The highlight are the taxis, 'Herbies' (VW Beetles), they must have the most VWs here per capita. We're soon playing chicken in the bullrush event that is the joy of driving in this city, it's truly organised chaos. Approaching the first hotel we had in mind we're soon telling the driver to keep on driving, it's not an inviting sight and we're feeling slightly uncomfortable. Maybe we're just paranoid as we know Acapulco has the fifth highest crime rate in Mexico, ahead of Mexico City. Our second choice is marginally better but then having seen a bit of the city now in the drive round town we're not entirely sure of where the best area to stay would be. I can see why the Love Boat has set sail and not returned for many years now. The highlight of the day is definitely the Cliff Divers; impressively diving off a cliff face into the surging water below, they make it look so easy. As night sets in the city takes on a whole different look and feel and actually has a great vibe. Still I'm looking forward to the bus trip out of here tomorrow morning.
