Granted, it was not easy getting out from under three wool blankets and bearing the cold air. But after two massive bowls of tea, juice, and bread and jam, we were ready to rock.
The sun was just climbing up above the crystal cut mountains as we sped up to the Gavarnie-Gedre ski station. Honestly? The romance disappeared when we got out the car at the station and nearly felt our faces melt of with the indescribably freezing air. I have absolutely never been so cold in my entire life!
But soon after we got our snow shoes on an headed up the ski slopes, I soon got warm! One thing about snow shoeing, it's bloody hard work. With that, and trying to avoid the skiers hurtling down the ski slopes, it proved to be a challenging experience. Took a tiny detour that took us an hour and a whole lot of confusion out of our way, and despite the increasing blisters, still headed up towards the highest point in the station.
The scenery was, without a doubt, unbelievable. As with the previous day, the sky was impeccably blue and the mountains were white over to the point where they gleamed against the light of the sun.
We went back to the hostel utterly exhausted, ecstatic and exhilarated. What an amazing day!
