Sinai, Israel and Jordan:

The People:

The Sinai is a far more relaxed area than the rest of a Egypt, a nice change of pace. Jordan was at times really nice and at times really frustrating. All the tourist enterprises seem to be in collaboration. The bus drivers, the taxi drivers even the military police! All to the simple end of extorting you for every penny, not to mention Jordanian's currency is worth somewhat close to the Euro. Besides that Jordan's average people are quite easy going and fairly nice. They are extremely religious like Egypt and observed Ramadan as strictly as would be expected. The Israeli's I can't comment on, I really only dealt with customs and one annoying cabbie.

The Fun:

Petra and the Red Sea were wonderful. Petra is probably just a rung below the Pyramids on the awesome scale. An entire city carved of stone! The Red Sea was also quite tranquil if not overly crowded by diving tourists. Not much else to say, this adventure only lasted 2 very long and eventful days (half of which was probably spent en route).

Back in the Egyptian Sinai we climbed Mount Sinai for sunrise before heading back to Cairo for our flight. It was a long, hard, cold night, but what an epic way to start the day. Before walking back down the 3700 steps "of repentance" that is. The desert night sky was incredible, unlike anything I have ever seen. I even got to wish on a shooting star...should have wished for a better exchange rate to Yen.

The Not So Fun:

Israeli customs. We really didn't have it that bad in hindsight but the line moved so slowwwww. We spent 4 hours in customs plus we lost an hour time zone wise crossing from Egypt, so 5 hours total. 6 hours including the taxi and the Jordanian border. Jordan having no really defined tourist routes, its pretty much "cool I'm in Jordan now. How do I get from here to the middle of the desert?".
