Sam:  So Mui Ne ended a bit shit. I had my bag stolen with heaps of cash credit cards and mobile phone. It was a real downer and i wanted to come home especially when the police laughed in our face. So we hopped on a bus for a 5 hour trip to Da lat. The bus was... also not great. Cramped, no windows or air con and millions of pot holes does not make for a great journey. By this time i had turned into a moody, fed up, homesick woman. Giles got the brunt of it. After a phone call home, my first hot bath and early night i was starting to feel better. Then today i have had the best day yet, its been wonderful. Thats the joy of travelling, just when you've had enough your reminded why your here and just how amazing it really is. We took a trip on the back of a motorbike with two witty, intelligent, knowledgeable vietnamise men calling themselves the "Easy Riders". We paid 20 USD and they told us they would show us the real Vietnam and they most certainly did do that! Buddhist temples with monks, the fields where the american war went on, traditional farmers, farmers of the most beautiful roses, coffee growers (Vietnam is the 2nd largest exporter of coffee in the world), little villages, a silk farm, elephant waterfall (the most beautiful thing i have ever seen), the biggest buddha in Vietnam, lunch in a families house, a passionfruit farm. The real Vietnam! No tourists (well except us), no tours. It brought me back to life and has made me passionate again. We loved it so much that we've booked a three day -2 night tour with them. It sounds amazing, we sleep with tribes in the mountains and in huts and get to swim with elephants etc etc. So in short the best day ever! I could go on but ill let the pictures do the talking... ...

Giles:  Have to say, the trip up here was the work of the devil himself.  As the bus was late, as usual for these places, we were the last on and got stuck right at the back between some young solo traveller and an old fella with his mail-order Vietnamese wife (I presumed that last bit) - bear in mind these seats were designed for Vietnamese bums so Sam was fine... until I sat down and crushed her left hip and the young traveller's right hip.  What annoyed me was couples who were travelling taking up two sets of double seats, one for them one for their bag... but they got their justice when the bus took on a few locals who stank, hocked their throats a lot, and were forced to move their bags for them to sit on.  Then the road seemed to fade into a dirt track with many potholes... the first ten minutes was funny as all the passengers swayed and jumped up and down with the bumps, but then got really irritating and also painful an hour in.  Anyway, enough of the hellish ride up here...

Da Lat, a bit more chilly (which is welcoming) being 1500m above sea level, and it's a place which has only just recently opened it's eyes to tourism.  Small town / big village, it's nice enough but not a great deal to do.  So we agreed to do a day's tour with those Easy Riders sam mentioned - great write ups in the Lonely Planet and thick guestbooks with accounts from satisfied travellers.  Such a fantastic way of seeing Vietnam on the back of a Harley (yes with a helmet on Mum!), stopping whereveer we wanted to if we wanted some photos.  They took us to about 6 or 7 stops from farmers to waterfalls to more farmers.  Brilliant ride, we're signing up to a 3 day trip which will finish with us in our next destination too so that's cool.  It's been an amazing day, best so far in Vietnam, maybe travels so far too!  Anyhow, like Sam said, the pictures will do the talking...

Much love, Gam and Siles xxx

Da lat - Harley people!
Very glad all is now well and that you have got over the shock/irritation etc. of the theft and awful bus journey too. The Harley trips sounded really fun and very interesting. But you didn't say where you are staying? Or does the next Harley part of the journey involve stopping in various places?? and then ending up at your next destination? Anyway, cooler weather sounds most welcome. Do take care, love Mum, Susie and Tessa xxx
