It has been exactly one month since I left Nanjing. Perhaps I've delayed my final entries here for fear that once I hit the "Publish" button, my experience in China would officially be over...
The extent to which I miss Nanjing makes me truly sad, though I find consolation in the fact that I am lucky enough to have had an experience worth crying over. To say that I'm experiencing "Reverse Culture Shock" would be an exaggeration. I simply miss the hell out of China. In fact, if I do say so myself, I think I've re-adjusted fairly admirably...I've traded in jet lag and coping with a 12-hour time difference for my usual insomnia, and a dorm room decorated with family photos for a condo decorated with China photos. I've replaced guo tie with chicken nuggets, Mengdu cigarettes with Newports, and bad coffee with...well, more expensive bad coffee. Which is not to say that I'm eager to forget Nanjing. This may make no sense to anyone else, but I'm thinking now that in order for my experience to remain precious to me, I need to establish some mental distance between myself and it.
So here's my final entry. These photos were taken during my last week in Nanjing, and capture some of the people, places, and things I am thankful to miss so terribly.
