I'm having a lovely time here in Canada! The canadians are certainly
living up to their warm and generous reputation everyone we've met has
gone out of their way to take care of us and take us around interesting
places. Saturday we went to Halifax with Lewis, Mhairi's friend and we
went to the citadel which is a star shaped fort the British built when
they first arrived in Canada, to the art gallery, there were some strange dressed up stuffed animals not sure what that was about! For a couple of days when we first arrived it felt like we were eating breakfast at lunch time and I kept waking up at 5am, 10am UK time. It made getting up early very easy but unfortuantely now when i get up at 7am it feels like 7am. Sunday, Lewis' wife Susan drove us out to Peggy's Cove which is
what you see on all the postcards of Nova Scotia it very beautiful and
very wild its by a beautiful little fishing village where the houses
are all higgledy piggledy.
The trucks here are on a completely different scale, as are the pick ups just ridiculously gigantic!
We
arrived at our first farm on Sunday evening, two of the guys who
are working here, Dyland and Jason gave us a lift from Halifax as they were there for the weekend. We
have a room in the attic which is very sweet. It's very cold at night
but I got sun burnt in the week and yesterday was a like a warm English summer day, it gets very warm working. This week we've been transplanting lettuces, cutting salad for selling to restaurant's, transplanting sage plants and the odd bit of weeding! We had a lot of fun trying to pin down plastic in very high wind a few days in a row. We nearly got blown away and Jason got wrapped up. Yesterday we went down to the Cobequid river which flows into the Bay of Fundy, which has the highest tidal range in the world, the tidal bore was pretty amazing and the water level rose so fast! It was a hot sunny day so we got a bit lying around in the sun to mmmm. Dave and Nancy who own this farm also own another one down the road that goes straight down to the Cobequid Bay we went there in the afternoon and messed about on their yellow dodge, which is gorgeous, I want it! Yesterday evening we had a fire out in one of the fields and I had a ride on the back of quad. The frogs sing so loadly here, its a nice sound though. Dylans is a great guitar player and we've all had a good time jamming. Much beer is consumed on this farm of an evening and fireball whisky, apparently it tastes like valentines day to canadians because they eat cinnamon hearts on valentines day and its cinammon flavoured! Bulk Barns are amazing they have millions of different kinds of sweets including lego candy and chocolate coated all sorts of stuff! As well as normal stuff like dried fruit and tea and flour. Today me and Mhairi are just chilling out and sleeping! In the week we get up at 7 start work at 8 have second breakfast at 10.30, lunch at 2 and finnish at 6. But the works good and I certainly sleep well after doing so much physical work in the day!
