I took an early flight to Iguazu Falls in the south of Brazil. It is a giant waterfall that is on the border of Brazil and Argentina. The hostel we are staying in is really nice. I spent the first day here just hanging out at the pool. I met a British-Australian couple(Sally and Ben) that was staying at our hostel. We ended up sight seeing with them for two days. The first day we did the Brazilian side of the falls. We took the small boat that first shows the Argentinian side and then drives up the rapids to the big waterfall called the Devils Throat on the Brazilian side. The falls are absolutely amazing. At the end of the boat ride, they drive the boat straight under one of the smaller waterfalls. Everyone was soaked. After the boat, we walked the path along the Brazilian side. I took way too many pictures of the waterfalls but I just couldnīt stop. I could try and describe them but the pictures will be much better. Then we went to see a bird sanctuary in the national park. It turned out to be a much bigger place than I thought. I took us over three hours to walk through. They have all different species of birds from all over the world. The birds are not afraid of people at all. Several of them walked right up to us. One even bit me...not hard but it surprised me. My favorite was the toucan. They also had a reptile portion with the anacondas. We stayed so long that we missed the bus home and had to take a taxi. We sat down to have a beer with Sally and Ben and a random Brazilian guy came up to us and invited us to a party in the common area. There was a group of engineering students and professors from a university staying at the hostel and they were having a bbq. It turned into another one of those crazy nights. They cooked tons of steaks and sausages. They were also mixing caparinhas (natioanl drink) and had tons of beer. I ate way too much (especially since I had already eaten dinner). I think I got to bed around 3 am. The Brazilians are really nice people and like to feed you! Tomorrow we are going to the Argentina side of the waterfalls. Not sure but Greg and I may spend a few days in Argentina since we are here.
