Last time I left you I was off to hike ancient thira....well that didn't happen. I took the bus to Kamara beach, where the 45 minute hike starts, only to find out that the site workers were on strike for the last 2 days I would be in Santorini. The other major site, Akrotiri, was also closed because a roof or something collapsed. I guess someone doesn't want me to see the ancient Minoan cultures. I was a little disappointed but that just means I will have to go back to Santorini one day. Since I had the rest of the day, I traveled to the north end of the island to the city of Ia. I wanted to go to the beach at the bottom of the cliff....I just didn't realize how far of a hike down it was. Down wasn't as bad as the way up. I got back to the main city in time for the sunset. Its funny that the whole town shuts down for about an hour during the sunset. Every wall and balcony has someone sitting on it just staring at the horizon. It is an amazing sunset though.
The following day, I took the overnight ferry back to Athens. I met Dimitri at his brother's house and then we went to lunch with Caroline in the Kolaniki district. It was great to see him and catch up on everything from NY. Then I had to catch the plane to the UAE.
For my summary of Greece I have written a top ten list of the things I learned while I was there...

#10. If you ask "how to do something" or "where do I go for"....the answer is always "No problem, its easy. You will be fine" but there are never any directions.

#9. Greek people do NOT believe in shower curtins.

#8. If you ask for direction to anywhere....it is always 50 meters that way! I found the best way to get places was to walk 50 meters in the pointed direction and then just ask again. Eventually I got there in 50 meter increments.

#7. Greek people are probably the nicest people on earth.

#6. If you do not like Feta cheese or Olive oil, you will no survive. I have eaten more feta and ingested more olive oil in 2 weeks than I have in my entire life....although I like it....so I'm really not complaining.

#5. Toilet paper does NOT belong in the toilet. I still haven't figured this one out.

#4. Everyone hates George Bush but likes Americans.

#3. The sunsets in the islands are amazing.

#2. If my legs and butt aren't in good shape after walking up all the hills, they will never be.

#1. I loved Greece and would definately go back.

Hope you enjoy the blogs. I also finally posted some pictures with the other blogs. I'm still trying to get more up.
Enjoy,

Danielle
