Where I stayed
Anna and I took it easy, lounging around until noon before going out.
We walked down to the beach, where the ice was slushy in places and
full of strange bumps in others. It was a gorgeous day, the nicest in a
week of very nice days, sunny and bright, cold but without wind. We
made our way to the museum which has an interesting (though small)
selection of artifacts, carvings and wall-hangings, as well as a nice
far as I can recall):
- 4l of milk
- 1l of ice cream
- 4 tomatoes
- chicken (thighs and breasts)
- 4 or 5 Yops
- a spice mix for the chicken
- that's it?
that afternoon, I managed to coax Anna out of hibernation again to
climb a hill with me. The air had gotten chillier but I pushed the pace
and though it wasn't the highest hill around Iqaluit, the view was
magnificent. I figured out how to make a video using the digital
camera, or at least I think I did, so soon you may all be able to see
the vast expanse that is the capital of Nunavut
leftovers for supper but went down to the Frobisher Inn for dessert, if
by dessert you mean smoked Arctic char (for me). Tasty. Thanks to this,
we learned that Anna Does Not Like Capers. Also, it was proven yet
again that the best way to buy carvings in Iqaluit is to sit around in
a restaurant, as people come by with not only carvings, but hats,
children's parkas and various crafts. I left with a bag heavier for the
large animals in it.
I leave today, but being here has just made
me want to come back some time when it's warmer and the snow has gone.
And even then... I have yet to see a blizzard!
