Cienfuegos is a maritime town...which we found to be rather quiet and sleepy. Paseo del Prado is the main thoroughfare leading from the well-preserved historic centre to Punta Gorda. The latter was the aristocratic quarter of the city in the early 1900s. There are various Art Nouveau villas and brightly coloured wooden houses. On arrival at the bus station in Cienfuegos we hopped into an 'Oldsmobile' (previously manufactured by GM) to Punta Gorda, where we stayed for 2 days.
On the second night we were introduced to Cuban raggaeton at a concert by one of the leading bands in the field (el Insurrecto)! A night to remember...not only because of the music but also because of the presence and behaviour of certain elderly italian gentlemen towards the local chicas (a sight that is apparently commonplace in Cuba).
