Given our disappointment with our hotel in Cayo Coco, we set off to explore the other hotels on the island using the local tourist bus. By the afternoon we decided on a hotel on the next island Cayo Guillermo. The rate quoted by the receptionist was about 1.5 times that quoted online...so using the hotel's internet service, we booked our room and shortly afterwards checked in!
As we proceeded to the bar to make full use of our all inclusive stay (no other option!) we were invited to join some of the animation team at the local disco that evening. We boarded a 'kids train' to get to the venue not realising the event was a fancy dress party. A Canadian hotel guest kept us entertained on the train with her drunken antics. A great party..and excellent welcome to Cayo Guillermo.

We were awakened with a gift of a fresh coconut and flowers. A day of sun worshipping...when the clouds made way for the sun. It is currently winter in Cuba...23 degrees is considered cold by the locals. The water is crystal clear and shallow for miles. The temperature did soar at lunchtime and we ended up with an enviable tan after a few hours!

Christmas Eve festivities started with an aperitif by the pool and live clay statues walking through the resort. Ladies also received a complimentary rose.

On Christmas day, we took a Hobiecat with a French/Canadian couple to go snorkelling a few miles offshore. The following day we went out again on the Hobiecat to the closest island to view the coral reef and some amazing sealife.
