I thank everyone for their kindness and well-wishes. Everything here is just fine. No more conflicts have been reported, though most of the people continue to be unhappy about Ellen Sirleaf's re-election. Not many people are in support of it, but apparently, it just is what it is. Whether CDC recognizes it or not, Ellen’s re-election inauguration will be held on January 16th. The international community is in support of Ms. Sirleaf, for no one outside the country knows the real story. All that is reported is that she won 90% of the votes. If you hear someone winning 90% of the democratic votes, what do think? You think that this candidate is awesome and that their people love them. But nothing could be farther from the truth. The election was in no way free or fair. It is a political fallacy of the highest order. Of the 3.5 million population in Liberia, 1.7 million of them are registered voters. Of that 1.7 million, only about 600,000 voted in the run-off election. That is a 65% decrease in voter participation from the first election. This is how Ellen won the 90%--only by default.

There has been a new story developing about what happened during 'Bloody Monday.’ This is Ellen’s side. One soldier from the peace-keeping militia threw a tear gas can into the crowd. The can fell, but never exploded. So one of the protestors took it and threw it back at the armed militia. It hit one of the soldiers in the chest and then decided to explode. The soldier’s automatic reaction was to fire live ammunition back. He thought that he had gotten hit by a bullet, not the tear gas can that failed to explode before. It all went downhill from there. This is allegedly how it all began . . . ?

With my sister coming to visit, we will be giving her an African name to go with mine. Her name shall be Kumba (pronounced KOO-mba). In Kissi, it means second-born girl, which she is. So the ‘Shinagle Twins,’ have now become ‘Siah and Kumba.’ J

Though it is the dry season now, the weather has become quite interesting. They tell me that it is the sign of December because during the month of December, the weather resembles that of Seattle. The days are gloomy and the sun doesn’t shine much. It might rain early in the morning, and bring with it a bitter cold, then at the turn of 9 o’clock in the morning, you are sweating once again. The temperature change between 8 and 9 is so

GABBY! I love seeing your posts about the political happenings over there. It is bad for the democratic process to see 1 candidate receiving 90% of the vote. But I wonder why the CDC encouraged its supporters not to vote instead of trying to get everyone they could to vote against President Sirleaf? It just doesn't seem to make sense to boycott an election unless there was a chance that the results would be thrown out and there would be another election day.

Any way, thanks for the posts! I enjoy reading them. You really seem to be enjoying yourself and learning a lot! :) TFJ
