To get to Arequipa, Peru from Arica, Chile it takes about 7 hours by bus. It is easy to grab a colectivo from the bus terminal in Arica for about $10 Sols($3 USD). The colectivo (car taxi) takes you and 4 other people going across the border and into the small town of Tacna, Peru. From Tacna you grab a 6hr. bus ride to Arequipa. The ride takes you through some of the most beautiful desert/sand mountains in southern Peru.

I got to Arequipa today in time to see the Parade of Saints. The event was led by prayers and speeches by important government officials. The Peruvian military band played all throughout the procession of El SEŅOR DE CAŅA and LA VIRGEN MARIA.

Many cities all over Peru and latin countries will be holding parades and special events commemorating holy week and leading up to Easter Sunday.

an annual Christian festival in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox, as calculated according to tables based in Western churches on the Gregorian calendar and in Orthodox churches on the Julian calendar.
