Flag of Morocco  ,

Unlike Marrakesh that has become a tourist trap, Meknes and Fes is more laid back and calm. Meknes has become one of my favorite cities where i can just relax with the locals and not feel the pressure of being a tourist.

Here in Meknes I broke a personal record of my most inexpensive night of lodging. Each night at Hotel Regina is only 60 dh; which turns out to be $7.50 per night.

One thing that I would like to mention is the need to improve the social role of women in Morocco. They need to be more visible, i am tired of seeing men packing every café. There are few cafés in major cities for women to enjoy some peace without men coming up to you. Just the other night I went to a disco/bar in the Ville Nouvelle of Meknes. The people had no character and i counted 5 women among 100 men. I stayed long enough to have a Flag beer and then left for better adventures. I know it is a Muslim country but give me a break.

Language note: I was aware that the French had colonized some parts of Morocco. I had no idea that they spoke French everywhere. I am seriously thinking about taking French when I get back home.
