Ayo! Wednesday our group of abroad kids took a field trip to Grasmere and Dove Cottage. Grasmere's this small town in the middle of the Lake District in Northern England. Meaning we dragged ourselves to onto a coach bus at 8:55 that morning for the lovely hour and a half drive. It turned into a nice nap for pretty much the whole bus ride.
So Dove Cottage is in the middle of the town of Grasmere which is in the middle of the Lake District. When we got to Grasmere, we first wandered around the lake area, walking along the lake shore along the road and into the forest-y place right up next to the shore. As you can tell from the pictures, the weather was beautiful. The sky was reflecting perfectly on the lake and the trees were a beautiful vibrant green.
After walking around the lake, we were herded back into town to Dove Cottage. Dove Cottage is where English poet William Wordsworth lived when he was writing his most well-known works including...something about daffodils. He wrote a lot about nature. I'm all for nature... but poetry is really not my thing. So we took a tour through the house, which was... interesting. Similar to Shakespeare house in Stratford-on-Avon. Of course, pictures weren't allowed in the building, but I've got some nice ones of the outside part and the gardens in the back.
After our tour, we had some free time to wander around Grasmere, which consisted of getting lunch (hawaiian pizza.. mmmm) and wandering around looking at the little shops.
After Grasmere, we went to Wordsworth's second home. The house was not quite as old but the gardens were beautiful. I've got lots of pictures of the gardens and the outside of the house, but again.. not many inside. If any. Actually I dont think there are any. But it wasnt all that impressive so we're not missing much.
After our little field trip, we got back to campus and wandered to the library to get some homework done. But so far it's been going really well. Its pretty easy work so nothing overly stressful. The assignments are kind of busy work-ish and the lectures are.. but it is what it is and its all going well enough.
Today (Saturday) we took a day trip to Whitby, which is a coastal town on the east coast of the country. And for those of you who are not terribly familiar with the UK geography, Lancaster is a town over from the west coast of England. So we were up and at the bus at 7.50 this morning and off. Getting to Whitby took around 4 hours, but at least getting home was closer to three. Ill write more about that later tho, probably tomorrow (sunday) seeing as my camera died and I havent had time to charge it.. nor upload pictures. So more to come!!
