For the next few days, our progress was steady but uncomfortable.  The wind was moderate, but stayed constantly against us.  We were slamming relentlessly into the waves and I found it hard going.  I was struck by seasickness again.  We had not intended to stop during the leg up the east coast, but the winds were increasing once more, and Jimmie decided to give us a bit of respite by turning into Gisborne.  We had dolphin escorts on both our approach and departure, enjoyed beers and fish and chips at the fishing club, and took the opportunity to stock up on fresh supplies and catch up on sleep.

We left Hawkes Bay behind on a glistening afternoon.  Once again we found ourselves pounding into wind, but we had a schedule to keep to.  So we headed out to sea, to go round East Cape and past the Bay of Plenty.  It was back to the old routine of slamming into waves.  The break had done me good, though, and I was able to cope with it better.  I could have hopped off at Gisborne, but that barely even merited consideration.  Uncomfortable as I was, I wanted to see this journey to its end.
