17th June - 10th August

Mark has been in town for three weeks now but I have just returned. I had a lovely final day at the station but I was glad to be back at Paul and Emma's house and I was greeted by a lovely bunch of flowers! How lovely! The four of us went out that evening to a restaurant called Sails, despite the very strange waiter with a mustache like Mario's (the computer game character) we had a lovely meal and some very good wine. We then ventured over to one of the more popular pubs in Carnarvon called the Gascoyne where we carried on having a few more beverages. The following day we took advantage of beautiful weather and went to Rocky Pool which is where the river swells after the rain. We took some beers and nibbles and jumped in the very refreshing, yet very cold water. After we got back Mark and I headed out on a mini pub crawl and drank the night away. In the morning, with sore heads we went along with Paul to do some shooting. The common land, which is supposed to be filled with goats were obviously hiding in the bushes when we got there so this turned into more of an off roading experience rather than a shooting exercise!

Anyway, back to work for Mark on the monday and I set about getting my teaching things organised in order to do some supply work around town. Unfortunately this turned out a little more complicated than expected so I spent the week cooking and cleaning for the other three. Then Thursday came - my birthday - Yeah!!! Paul and I went fishing for the day in his friends boat, unfortunately I was a little sea sick, nothing to do with the beer I drunk the night before of course, but I had a brilliant day all the same. I caught some big fish and saw a big hump back whale and some dolphins! I was amazed! That evening, I put on a mexican themed spread and invited some friends around to celebrate my birthday! We had a go at dressing up but the sticky mustaches were rather uncomfortable! Mark had organised this incredible cake for me, it was the best cake I have ever had! Yum!

On the friday, the four of us set off to Red Bluff - where we camped last time - but this time we stayed in the eco tents which have proper beds and fridegs etc. The saturday was a little miserable, weather wise, but we enjoyed watching the surf and chilling out. That night we cooked roast lamb on the bbq and sat around the fire chatting and having a few beers. Sunday was much sunnier, so we went down to the beach and enjoyed some of the lovely birthday cake before heading home.

During the time back in town we did lots of things like going to Ladies Day at the races, shooting a few more times and a few house parties. The problems with getting some supply work continued for a while but eventually I got the relevant paper work through and started to get some work. I also managed to get a few bar jobs to help us out too. Mark continued to do engineering on th pipe line and we began to save some money.

After a week back at Paul and Emma's we decided to look for our own house to rent. We were going to put this off until we returned from our month trip to Melbourne and Fiji but the time seemed right. Saxon, Mark's boss sorted us out with a house a helped us with the payments. He also furnished it for us, which was great fun when we went shopping for things. We were also spoilt by the generosity of our friends here who donated other essentials. We moved in and had a small house warming which was really good fun.

Until next time

Lou and Mark xx
