Rained all night, hot (75 degrees) and humid this morning. Drove across the bridge to New Bern looking for the post office - small branch which didn't open until 10:30. Ate breakfast, walked around Middle Street. A local pharmacy is where the formula for Pepsi-cola was developed. I checked out the Pepsi store but didn't buy anything as I really prefer Coke.

At 11:00 I caught the Trolley Tour of Historical New Bern. The guide was full of information and condensed 300 years of architectural and city history into ninety minutes. Beautiful houses - 80 on the historic register. Beautiful churches. Historical cemetery. Central part of town has only locally-owned shops and restaurants. City bordered by two big rivers which join here on their way to the Atlantic and a peaceful city park at that spot. Boats, sailboats, marinas everywhere. Nice place to visit.

Sat in the city park for a while. Uneventful drive back to Raleigh... in time to watch the news and for dinner. Thanks, Jan!
