A beautiful sunny spring day to travel west from the Kentucky River across the Cumberland Parkway to Mammoth Cave. The journey was almost as much up-and-down as it was traveling west. I have a greater understanding and respect for those early frontiersmen who traveled through this area by foot. Spring is definitely here today - a windy 70 degrees and green leaves are bursting out at the tops of the trees so they look fuzzy. Redbuds and wisteria are in bloom, too.

Mammoth Cave National Park was a perfect place to walk in the sunshine so I explored the Heritage Trail and walked down to the Historical Entrance to feel the cold air rushing out. The exhibits and films gave good explanations of history, the geology, and environmental challenges. I took the Niagara Falls tour which was about as far underground as I wanted to go.

Staying in a fancy campground tonight and am surrounded by huge 5th wheelers. There is even cable TV -- if only I knew how to hook it up to my TV. Maybe by the end of this trip I will have things figured out.

Cumberland St. Park brings back great memories of a couple years ago. We stayed a week in cabins and played on a pontoon boat with a water slide. All the relatives then drove to Mammoth cave and took the longest deepest walk inside.
Your knee would not have liked that. There was a narrow circular staircase at the beginning that just went down, down, down. Kind of scary, till we got to the bottom and it opened up. That part was beautiful
