4:00 p.m. On Friday, Penang time
Spent time this morning repacking to try to keep the suitcase under 20 kilos -- 44 pounds -- so I wouldn't have to pay more on AirAsia for the flight to Bangkok.  Then I went out shopping to buy preserved mangoes and a big bag of instant local coffee called 3-in-1.  Taxi arrived at 2:30 with a 45-minute trip to the airport.   Checked in, put my suitcase on the scale, and the previous one plus mine had their weights combined, so I don't know how much mine actually weighs but I think I should be good for United's 50 pound limit tomorrow.      Had kopi and cake at the local cafe and then went to the "buy Penang" store to spend my last 24 Malaysian ringgits.   Am now sitting at the gate and was surprised to find free wi-fi.   When will American airports start providing access?   Should be boarding soon.  Next stop is Bangkok's Don Mueang Airport.

Flight to Bangkok was smooth and it took about 90 minutes.  A happy surprise when I landed was that there is now a free shuttle between the two airports...  So 45 minutes in a bus up high on the expressway with a massive Bangkok Friday rush hour traffic jam below.  The sticky rice family will know what I mean.

Sleeping in the airport was difficult for me.  Lots of metal seats, comfortable to sit in, not to lie down.  I slept for 10 minutes at a time.  Gave up at 3:00 a.m. And went to Starbucks.  Checked in with United when they opened @ 4:00 a.m., turned over luggage and got to the departure area.

Have really enjoyed your blog. Sounds like you did a great job getting around and finding a lot of very special places. Hope your journey home is uneventful.
I should warn you that just to celebrate your arrival home from a long journey, we will all set our clocks ahead one hour. That will happen Sat. night. Take care. I look forward to seeing about 8:30 Sat. evening. I will stay in touch with the airlines.
