Where I stayed
The Semenggoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, 25 miles south of Kuching, is a forest reserve where the rangers feed the wild orangutans twice per day and visitors flock to see them. I was one of the tourists there this morning for an hour watching the rangers call and feed them. They were amazing. We saw about ten total and some stuck around for quite a while. Long, long arms and very quick climbers.
This afternoon was reserved for running errands. Packed up 3 kilos of books, papers and shipped them thru the post office; he estimated two months by ship but it is a lot cheaper. Walked down Carpenter Street thru Chinatown and found the Black Bean Coffee Shop serving Sarawak-grown coffees including a great latte for $1.50. Walked down India Street checking out the many shops, each selling only one or two types of goods: material, ready-made clothes, shoes, accessories, candy and snacks the most common. Bought a new larger umbrella as rain continued for much of the day. Walked through the excellent Chinese History Museum, too.
I'm packed and ready to leave for Sibu in the morning; leaving the suitcase here.
