Breakfast at the hotel @ 6:15, hoping that the rest of the "sticky rice family" was safely on board, sleeping, and nearing Japan. One last chance to check email, post a couple of pictures, say a last good-bye to Otto, grab my suitcase (still OK AT 19.7 kilos) and a cab to Don Muang Airport. Traffic wasn't too bad on the frontage road which seemed to be faster than the tollway. Waiting now for my 11:05 flight to Singapore, drinking a Starbucks latte skim. SE Asian coffee is either Nescafé instant or very strong brewed, so Starbucks was a welcome sight in spite of the $4.75 price tag.

3:45 pm at the Changi Airport in Singapore: uneventful two hour plane ride; then had to officially enter Singapore and then leave - more stamps for the passport. Beautiful airport and free wi-fi -- what more can I ask? As we flew in I could see the harbor full of ships. Looking forward to spending time here later in the trip.

Raining in Singapore this evening so a bit of a bumpy flight.  The taxi ride into town was interesting.  I knew that Kuching had changed significantly... but knowing something and actually seeing a modern city with freeways and KFC and even Toys R Us was a shock.  Lighted flowers and hornbill symbols were hung from poles along the main road into the city which was striking.  As we got into the center of town things looked more familiar... Shophouse style.  Singgahsana Lodge, my home in Kuching, is just fine:  a room with two beds, a table to put my suitcase on, another table for stuff, mats on the floor, and an air conditioner.  Bathroom and shower down the hall.  Wi-fi in my room which is right off the lobby.  Not exactly the Pantin Suites but all I need.  Oh, yes, and a bar on the top floor.    Tomorrow will be my first chance to explore.

It must be weird to be back in Malaysia after so many years. Keep us posted on the changes you see from when you were there before! All is well here!

It was an uneventful long ride home, arriving home as the snow started to fall.
Glad to see your posts coming. Hope your rain comes mostly at night and your trip connections are good.
