Had a terrible sleep, cold, and the girl above me was puking all night and morning. Got up to go to the bathroom twice before breakfast.. Not looking forward to this trip the way i feel. Stomach ache while getting ready, was all very tiresome. Had breakast, it was raining, waited in the reception for the guys to pick me up for the tour. Bought some more snacks in meanwhile, and aspirin... Checked out and got picked up! Had to speed walk a while to the bus to then wait.. Bought more snacks :-). Apparently its very expensive at machu picchu. The train was changed to 18:45, so must leave mp before it closes, but then i also earlier in cusco and dont need to wait for hours in aguas calientes.. I will change to magico hostel when back, sounds very good.
And finally the trip started, we drove past ollentaytambo and up into the mountains, our highest point where it was snowing!.. We drove down hill the first bit till it had stopped snowing. Dangerously slippy and freezing cold for mountain biking. There it was raining though, so drive a little bit more downhill... Rain didnt stop so we just got our gear on, got on the bikes and started going downhill, in a few hours it should be more jungle climate. Jessie, the american guy started throwing up before the cycling so he stayed in the car, and the israeli guy cant cycle so they were there together. He felt better after vomitting. The guides said altitude, but he has been in cusco for 2weeks already. He decided not to do the mountain biking, smart idea, i should have stayed in the van too.. Got soaked, cycled theough rivers in the rain, nothing to stop the rain splashing off the wheels in my face and up my back. Freezing cold fingers in the wet gloves.. Rain dripping from helmet down my jumper in my tshirt. Scarf soaked, feet in a fish bowl.. Finally finished, still raining, a little hotter but still very cold. US guy now feeling very bad, he needs a hospital.. I think food poisoning, but the guides still think altitude. He ate eggs in the morning.. Could be salmonella, his fingers are tingeling which i think is definately not a sign of altitude. He is breathing fine, no headache.. Anyways, nothing here except for chickens and dogs running around, some small shops for chocolate and water.. Left to santa maria, a car drove over a dog on the way!!!!! Poor thing, it was still moving and didnt look flat, but its ribs must be broken and lots of internal bleeding. Nobody took much notice, everybody just kept driving. Got to st maria, and we went to the restaurant first?! Then they took jessie to the clinic, we were eating when Evert came back to say it was a stomach virus probably from the eggs and he got an injection and is resting at the clinic. I was feeling cold and feverish again, ordered a tea, got lunch: soup with a potatoe in it and a chicken wing with rice. Needed to get warm and out of these clothes! Went to buy some socks as i forgot to bring some stupid me! Put newspaper in boots and bought some anti fever paracetamol tablets at the pharmacy. Hope it works. My stomach seems to be a bit more stable, it hurt a few times while cycling hmm. Must have something inside me and this shivering isnt helping me fight it. Asked for an extra blanket at the hostel and got a sheet!? That wont help much. Slept until dinner, ate and then went back to bed after putting some new newspaper in my boots. I also have stuff in my eyes and the right one really hurts. Cant get it out, it is probably some dirt that flicked up from the tires of the mountain bike. Zzzzzzz, hopefully tomorrow better!!
