Battambang was a strange town. Nothing to see in the town itself although did find a couple of good places to eat and it's a very chilled out place to stay for a few days.

W took our friends advice and found the bamboo train! Yet again we were taken around by car. Too bloody hot and dusty to get a moped so we got a taxi and one of the moped drivers came along as a guide, which was excellent as he new so much history about the area.

He was called Odom and worked for the Chaya Hotel (if anyone else goes there ask for him he was brilliant!) Really interesting bloke, he'd was split from his whole family when he was 10 by the Khmer Rouge and he assumes they killed his father and two sisters as he's never been able to find them again. He spent 13 years in a refugee camp, where he learnt English, French, Thai and Chinese and became a medic. Due to corruption he's not able to get work as would need to pay $2000 for a medical license.

He took us to a hill outside of the town, where the Khmer Rouge killed thousands of people by hitting them with rocks before throwing into a cave, yet another sad story and our last one from Cambodia. On the way back to town we went to the bamboo train, which is basically a platform on old army truck axles with a little petrol engine on the back. Some local kids came and put one together for us and took us back into town, well as near as they can without having to bribe police! It was such fun especially when we met something coming the other way and had to get off and dismantle the thing!
