All welcomes are expected, of course, but today brought something different...

First, though, we need to bring things up to date. Last Sunday was in North Dakota, I've travelled a long way and seen a lot since then. And I did mention that finding a mid-week meeting might be difficult during this week. My one chance was Wednesday and I saw a hall as I drove along in a town where I had time to stop and go to a meeting...

Finding my way back off the highway to the hall, I quickly learned it didn't have a meeting that night. It was somewhere before I reached Oshkosh and from that point I kept searching via the Garmin GPS to find other halls. But it was failing me!

There are, in fact, two congregations in Oshkosh, but I didn't have a chance to go online to find that out. I simply kept driving towards my destination. Eventually I had the Fond du Lac hall come up on the GPS and I drove there. But again I was defeated, their meeting was also Thursday.

I thought I took a photo of the first hall, but apparently I didn't... here's the Fond du Lac hall:

I was scheduled to stop in Bloomington IN for about four days and that included the weekend, Justin took me for a drive on Saturday so I'd know where the hall was located. On Sunday I drove up there for the 9:30am meeting, which happened to be the congregation that covers the territory where he lives.

They certainly pack them in at this hall! Meetings are scheduled for 9:30, 12:00 (Spanish), 2:30 and 5:00pm. Four meetings every Sunday!

We had a visiting brother from Indianapolis give the talk and Gannon Rhinehart took the Watchtower study. He'd taken the trouble to introduce himself prior to the meeting so he'd know my name for when I commented.

After the meeting, as is usual, I was swamped by people wanting to know where I was from. Our Aussie accent gets us into all of this every time. One Brother, Alan Meeker, came up to me and said, "You must be Justin's father?"

It seems that Alan has had a number of occasions to do work for Justin at his house as he's in the plumbing and electrical business. Perhaps Justin has mentioned that I'm a Witness at some time, but what Alan told me was that he'd read the article in the local paper about the trip Janet and I took last time and was somewhat captivated by it.

What had happened was that the girl who writes up a regular Saturday feature called 'My Favorite Ride' had been looking for a story and had been told of our little adventure. We were asked to send details and a picture and she published about our trip when we'd gone about as far as Las Vegas.

So it was nice to meeting Alan and to know that there's someone there who can sometimes put a little spiritual food in front of my son.

By the way, the carpark is impressive:

This week is the lead-up to the International Convention at Detroit. I'm due there Wednesday evening for the registration of the delegates. Thursday there'll be some activities with the brothers and sisters before we get into the Convention program on Friday. I'm scheduled to go out witnessing somewhere in Detroit Monday with local brothers.

I'm looking forward to it so I'll try to remember to take some pics to pass on some of it to all of you.
