I split today into 2 due to the amount of info we had to blog. I thought it would be easy to read. Sorry it's long, but we did heaps today.

We drove 86 miles/140kms to Austin from Round Top, driving through countryside before getting back to the freeway.

LAKE TRAVIS and CARLOS & CHARLIE'S
We headed to Lake Travis thinking that their might be a cafe alongside the water, but it was either residental or National Park. We drove past the dam and saw Lake Travis from a few different view points before heading to a cafe/bar overlooking the water. It was about 4pm.

We ordered food, chicken salads, wraps (I was just hanging for a salad!!!) and a Texas favourite fried pickles (deep fried crumbed pickle slices with Ranch sauce).
It was a lovely area but due to it being outside, it was hot! Today's temp was 93F/34C. I think because we spent more time outside today I really appreciated the air conditioning.. and was never once cold.

AUSTIN
After lunch/A.tea/whatever meal we were up to... we drove into the city of Austin. Note: In Texas they don't call it afternoon tea, they just call it 'a snack.'
Mike suggested we have a look around the University. We wandered around the campus taking photos, looking at the old buildings, the beautiful grounds, the turtle ponds and the squirrels.

I don't think I've posted my fascination with these little creatures, but I just love to watch them. They are so cute!!! When we go on our walks with Caron we often see them scurrying around the gardens and trees. I always make Jeff take pictures of them with their cute furry tails.
Caron just smiles and says "yeah, they're everywhere."
Around the place we've also seen heaps of birds and it's so weird not having any idea what they are (Necia I still haven't got a book yet). We did see a woodpecker though. That was pretty cool.

Anyway back to Austin.
By the time we left the University it was getting pretty late. We'd eaten enough today so we decided to just get a slurpees from 7/11. The large slurpees were about $1.50. They even had Dr Pepper!
Ok, well, a large slurpee, with all that syrup, is not such a good idea for me. For those in the know, not quite as bad as the sips of coke incident, but there was lots of hysterical laughing from both Caron and I.
Mike drove us down to The Hyatt Lost Pines,a boutique hotel, equipped with a day spa just south of Austin. We SO have to stay here when we are next back. Caron & Mike stayed there Dec 2008 and they said its the perfect place to relax, especially with the golf course. (Both Caron and Mike love golf)

We had a 350km trip home, so that slurpee helped me stay awake and sing to all the songs we played.

About an hour out of Houston, on the I-10, in the middle of nowhere, Caron asked us if we would be Hannah's godparents. We were very honoured and accepted immediately. What a amazing privilege to be asked to help bring up Hannah to know and love God.

A huge and amazing day.

We thank God so often for this very special trip... and it's only just started.

J&K xoxo

PS Jeff has gone out with Mike tonight (Sat night/your Sun lunch) so I'll post some more pictures from his camera when he gets back. So check back here in a couple of hours to see more pictures.
xoxo
