Scott and I landed in Maui a couple days ago intent on reviewing a new walk set up a couple years ago by Lee and Loraine and our friends Bill and Linda Hassell. Driving to the trail head was pretty neat - on the "local" side of Maui far from the tourist resorts. Hawaiians here still plant taro patches in their back yards!
Alas, it was not to be. The trail is on private property and has been closed. So...we drove around the north shore of Maui, researching other ideas from guidebooks and internet resources. What we found was pretty awesome, focused on Maui's natural coastal beauty rather than its unique agricultural past as our intended walk had.
Here are pics we took setting up a three-part walk north of Ka'anapali. The highlight was a blowhole reached by hiking through surreal lava formations sculpted by wave action over the eons. Surf is generally up this time of winter, and the blow hole was spouting like an asphyxiating whale. While Scott stood upwind for his shots, I picked a spot in the overspray zone and ended up wet with salt water all over my camera.
Great day of walk planning in Maui. Four more days ahead. I'll try to post a video or two, internet speeds permitting.

such clear detail in your photos! Not sure my eyes would even see that much sparkle and color! Awesome camera!
Thanks Alice - its' the Panasonic with the Lumix lens. They've become very popular lately - several of our team use them.
So sad to lose the walk planned along the water chute and to the suspension bridge, but glad you could string together a 3 part walk above Kaanapali. Wish I were there. Lee
