Zion National Park is our last planning task before we head home from Vegas in a couple of days. We came into the park with a day or two to spare – planning to catch up on our documentation and maybe even play in the park a day. But first… the "work" – set up a walk, if feasible, and update our knowledge of how to best approach Zion.

We spent two half-days exploring – reviewing walks at Emerald Pools, the Riverside Trail at the extreme north end of Zion Canyon, and Court of the Patriarchs. Some of the walk sections we discarded, but most we were able to meld into a “do-it-yourself” day of enjoying Zion.

The park has an excellent shuttle system – no private vehicles are allowed. Using the shuttle system, however, travelers can easily combine sections of the walks we are recommending with stops at viewpoints and overlooks, and visits to the history museum and excellent visitor center. It's shaping up to be a perfect way to unwind after 10 days of chock-full sensory overload with some of the heaviest concentrations of “amazing” to which we’ve ever subjected our travelers!

One more post about this scouting trip will follow – the guides play day in Zion. WARNING: Our play day activities will NOT be included in the walking adventures, but you may enjoy sharing them vicariously with us nonetheless.

You're right, Andrea. It was a terrible shock. Plastic reality with replicas of so many places we visit looming over our heads. Ouch! Glad to be outta there!
