We had a perfect day for our final walk in Europe. Rain was forecast this morning, but it turned out to be a brisk morning and a lovely cloud-studded blue sky at the start.

The windmills were all built in the mid to late 1700s to drain a peat bog and create new grazing land. Nineteen of the mills remain and were refurbished at a cost of about $1 million per mill. Some are now rented out for vacationers. A few are lived in. One is open for tours.

It's a memorable way to connect with one of the most traditional faces of Holland, and a relaxing way to finish our Europiad 2012 walking adventure! Tomorrow, we return home with a knapsack full of great memories of walks in 5 countries with our guide, Hildrun, a great bunch of walking friends from 12 states of the USA and the Canadian province of Ontario!
