Scott and I spent the morning exploring walk options in the beautiful Rocky Mountain mining town of Ouray. We had help from several friendly locals at the visitor center who obviously feel that Ouray is just one step away from heaven!
After spending the day in the area, it's hard to disagree. One of the activities we are considering for future trips is a jeep trip high into the surrounding mountains. When we stopped by to talk to one of jeep operators, he had only 2 people signed up for the afternoon tour to Imogene Pass and offered us both a free ride.
That's how we spent the afternoon - 4 hours of bumping through amazing Rocky Mountain scenery, topping out at over 13,000 with otherworldly views over the tops of North America. It was cold at the top, and I was not prepared. But the jeep had blankets and once we left the Imogene Pass at 13,140 feet above sea level, things warmed back.
Tomorrow, we drive the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton, where Scott hitches a ride on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad.
